报告摘要： Statistical analysis is meant to serve scientific, business and management purposes, and statistical inference is a process to reach conclusions about unknown population features based on evidence and proper reasoning. This talk re-emphasizes the usefulness of the empirical distribution and illustrates its use when modeling extreme values.
主讲人简介：
Professor Gemai Chen is a statistics professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Calgary, Canada. After obtaining his PhD degree in statistics from Simon Fraser University, he worked at University of Waterloo, University of Regina and University of Manitoba before joining the University of Calgary. Professor Chen’s research includes financial and economic model building and forecasting, non-linear time series modelling of environmental changes and quality control.
