【CGTN】Exploring China's cutting-edge maglev: US students visit Chengdu

来源:CGTN 日期:2026/05/14

On May 12, more than 20 students from US universities, including Yale and Brown, visited Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, to explore the world's first high-temperature superconducting maglev engineering prototype and test line. The group took part in hands-on experiments and trial rides at the Lab of Rail Transit Vehicle System, gaining a close-up look at its cutting-edge technology.

Experts note that the system being developed at Southwest Jiaotong University is one of China's most streamlined maglev approaches. It is among three key technologies expected to reach speeds exceeding 600 km/h in the future, potentially helping bridge the gap between high-speed rail and air travel.

The visit is part of a week-long Chinese language and cultural immersion program promoting language learning and cultural exchanges among US college students with prior Chinese study experience.
