主讲人简介:

Prof. Boon Teck Ooi (IEEE Life Fellow) is presently Emeritus Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, McGill University, Canada. Recently he has been Visiting Professor in the University of Malaya, University of Adelaide, South Australia, and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He received the B.Eng. (Honors) from the University of Adelaide, the S.M. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Ph.D. from McGill University.

His early research had been in linear induction motor, homopolar linear synchronous motor, magnetic levitation by superconducting magnet, sub-synchronous resonance instability. His later research has been in power electronics: unity power factor PWM rectifiers, the Voltage-source converter family of HVDC, Multi-Terminal VSC-HVDC, controllers for Flexible AC Transmission Systems, Power Quality and Distributed Generation, MMC, Multi-Terminal MMC HVDC, DC-DC Converter.

讲座内容简介:

Solar and wind power are being integrated into Micro-Grids. Stability is of concern in the interaction of the Micro-Grids with the tradition grid (Mega-Grid).  Voltage-Source Converters, as HVDC and FACTS, are called upon to assist in control and stabilization of Micro-Grid and Mega-Grid integration. Recently, MMC (modular multi-level converters) is the subject of intensive research. Capacitor Modulation Theory is used to derive ODE (Ordinary Differential Equations) formulation of MMC.  Simulation using ODE equations are accurate and 10 times faster than simulation by the Detailed Model. In addition, algebraic formulas from ODE give understanding to MMC operation.
